Ultimately, our goal is to reshape attitudes towards cybercrime among Canadian youth, foster a culture of proactive defense, and prepare the next generation of cybersecurity professionals to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Our objectives are:

  • Empower Canadian high school students to contribute to the protection of the nation’s digital infrastructure.
  • Establish a network of high school honeypots across Canada for practical cybersecurity education.
  • Reshape attitudes towards cybercrime and foster a culture of proactive defense.
  • Engage students in real-world cybersecurity activities, such as threat monitoring and log analysis.
  • Strengthen the national security and prepare the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

Our Goals for 2024 include:

  1. Establishment of Honeypot Network:
    • Deploy honeypots in at least 5 high schools across Canada.
    • Ensure that each deployed honeypot is operational and effectively capturing cyber threats.
  2. Training and Education:
    • Conduct training sessions for teachers in all participating schools on how to use the provided software packages and training materials.
    • Ensure that at least 80% of students in participating schools have received access to introductory cybersecurity education through classroom activities or extracurricular clubs.
    • Hold at least 2 virtual sessions with each highschool club to provide Q&A sessions with the students.
  3. Data Centralization and Sharing:
    • Establish a centralized repository for storing and analyzing data collected from deployed honeypots.
    • Develop methods for sharing actionable intelligence with the Canadian Center for Cyber Security (Cyber Center) and RCMP’s NC3 on a regular basis.
  4. Youth Engagement and Awareness:
    • Organize cyber defense awareness events or workshops in at least 20% of participating schools to engage students and raise awareness about cyber threats.
    • Encourage student participation in cybersecurity competitions or challenges to further enhance their skills and knowledge.
  5. Collaboration and Expansion:
    • Foster collaboration with additional high schools, aiming to have interest in joining the network by at least 25% by the end of the year.
    • Strengthen partnerships with Cyber Center and NC3 and University organizations to garner support and resources for the program’s sustainability and growth.
