Welcome, educators, to our thrilling exploration of cyber defense! You are the experts of your students, but we created this curriculum as a proposed guide for leading an engaging after-school club. We hope it will result in students wanting dive into the captivating world of cyber defense and actively contribute to safeguarding our digital realm. September - October: Introduction to Cyber Defense

  • Week 1-2: Club Kickoff and Orientation

    • Welcome students, introduce club objectives, show our introduction video to the students, and establish a collaborative club environment.
    • Explore common cyber threats and their impact on individuals, organizations, and society.
    • Discuss the importance of cyber defense and the role students can play in protecting against cyber threats.
  • Week 3-4: Setting up Equipment

    • Set up club accounts, access to tools, and resources.
    • Provide hands-on training on setting up and operating cyber defense systems using provided tools.

November - December: Operating Cyber Defense Systems

  • Week 5-6: Introduction to TPot

    • Showing Videos on how to use tpot
    • Searching in Data 101
    • Using Dashboards
  • Week 7-8: Threat Monitoring Techniques

    • Teach students how to effectively monitor and detect suspicious activities within cyber defense systems.
    • Introduce tools and techniques for analyzing security logs and identifying cyber threat indicators.
    • Host a call with the ThreatIntel team!

January - February: Threat Monitoring and Analysis

  • Week 9-10: Compare Threat Monitoring Techniques

    • Have the students show what they have learned & what patterns they have found
    • See if the students are able to make a write up on what they found
  • Week 11-12: Analyzing Cyber Threats

    • Guide students in analyzing data collected from cyber defense systems to identify various cyber threats.
    • Discuss strategies for responding to and mitigating cyber threats effectively.

March - April: Cyber Defense Awareness and Outreach

  • Week 13-14: Cyber Defense Awareness Initiatives

    • Plan and organize cyber defense awareness events or workshops within our school community.
    • Engage students in raising awareness about cyber threats and promoting proactive cyber defense measures.
  • Week 15-16: Cyber Defense Competition

    • Interschool leader boards

May - June: Culminating Projects and Reflection

  • Week 17-18: Culminating Projects

    • Guide students in completing culminating projects that showcase their understanding of cyber defense concepts and their contributions to the club.
    • Encourage innovation and collaboration in project development.
  • Week 19-20: Reflection and Celebration

    • Reflect on the club’s accomplishments and experiences throughout the year.
    • Celebrate students’ dedication to cyber defense education and their role as proactive defenders of our digital world.
